Southern Rivers Cruise 2010 Saturday 14th August to Friday 20th August
Cruise Leader: Soozie Hopwood
If the thought of cruising the relatively quiet and open waters of the Southern Rivers and Broads, in company, en route to Oulton Regatta, appeals, and you are free for some or all of the time, then this annual cruise to the southern rivers is a must.
Suggested Itinerary:-
Saturday
The tides are not brilliant today with slack being at 08.40 – 08.55. You may prefer to do the Breydon crossing on Friday evening with slack being 20.45 – 21.00, and then moor at the Berney Arms for the night. If anyone does choose to cross on Friday then let us know and we will join you at the Berney. Either way the plan is for everyone to gather at the Reedcutter at Cantley for a meal and overnight moorings on Saturday.
Sunday
Cruise to Coldham Hall moorings for lunch, and then back to Rockland for overnight.
After making enquiries it appears that both Coldham Hall and the New Inn at Rockland do not do evening meals on Sunday, but both do Sunday lunches. So self-catering will be on the menu this evening, possibly a barbecue?
Monday
Cruise to Whitlingham Country Park for lunch. After lunch we could have a walk around the park and afternoon tea, or the more adventurous could explore the heads of navigation of the Yare or the Wensum. Later, return to Bramerton Green for a meal at the Woods End and overnight moorings.
Tuesday
Cruise to Brundall Church Fen for a walk up into Brundall for BBQ supplies. Later, we could have a raft-up on Surlingham Broad for lunch. Then, for the competitive ones among you, an optional timed sail from Brundall to Langley Dyke. If we get there in time it is a short walk to Langley Abbey for afternoon tea, but they do close at 16.00. Evening barbecue and overnight mooring in Langley Dyke.
Wednesday
Cruise to Herringfleet via the New Cut for lunch. Low water Reedham is 12.40. Then on to Waveney River Centre for an evening meal in the pub and overnight mooring ( £9 fee ). Hopefully Somerleyton Bridge will be working, if not then mean HW clearance is 8’6’’.
Thursday
Another optional timed sail from the Waveney River Centre to the dismantled railway bridge before Beccles. In Beccles go through the old low road bridge and moor at the swimming pool for lunch. HW Beccles is at 09.15, with mean HW clearance of 6’6’’, and LW at 15.45, clearance 9’3’’. After lunch a stroll around Beccles and then on to Geldeston to overnight with a meal and a folk night in the pub.
Friday
Today people will decide for themselves depending on their plans, some will decide to spend the night in Beccles, others will go direct to Oulton Broad for the start of Oulton Week, others will make their way home across Breydon with slack water today being 15.25 – 15.40, and on Saturday it is 16.30 – 16.45
You may decide to take part in the whole or part of the cruise, or come by car to join us for the pub meals at around 19.00, the choice is yours!
