Autumn Regatta 2009

What a fantastic weekend!

Shed loads of wind, sunshine and no rain!

With a solid westerly forecast on the Saturday race one (passage to South Walsham) was never to be a short race. The fleet, in two starts was set to sail up the Thurne, turning at Womack, then down the Bure, turning at Oby Mill to sail to Ant mouth before being allowed to aim for South Walsham. (Such a course allowes the mobile OOD time to get to the finish before some of those rather swift ‘big boys/girls’  get there!). It also ensured that the passage was almost an hour minimum. With six boats starting there were two starts, regrettably Mischief had to retire after a reefing line gave resulting in a torn main.

Upon completion all made for the Atkins family front lawn for socialising with those members and friends who attended by car, foot, or any other means other than the river.

Steve set about removing his torn main from Mischief, and a call was made to past EACC member Ray to see if he could repair it for him, after all Mischief is entered in Yare Navi next w/e.

Pat had a very welcome new toy which seemed to provide endless coffee (although I suspect she was rushing around re-filling it and cleaning cups). Tim had sorted the BBQ, which was fired up and easily managed all the meat (and other items) that were thrown at it.

Dave (from Dove) brought his mini-punt out to play with, and great fun it is to sail (although I suspect some decided not to take up the offer of a sail due to the ‘fresh’ wind. Young George (recently completed his level 2) took his ‘Oppie look-a-like out’ to demonstrate his skills, which he did very well.

End of Season Cruise

EACC End of Season Cruise 18th & 19th October.

This, the last cruise of the season, was again organised by Nick and Amanda Wiggins. But Amanda was fated with putting her back out and Soozie Hopwood acted as Deputy Cruise Organiser (Blue Leader). Taking her responsibilities very seriously she has provided the following report and some excellent photographs. Thank you Soozie.

The weather on Friday 16th had been gusting to 29 mph! Saturday’s weather Appeared a little calmer but still gusty. ‘To reef or not to reef, and how many?”
