Winter Walk

Took place on Sunday 9th February 2025

 winter walk 7

It may have been my personality, meticulous planning, reasonably dry weather forecast, or perhaps more likely the fact that Surlingham Ferry House was the chosen lunch (and breakfast) feeding station for the walk this year which attracted so much interest in this event?

On the day we had:

38 participants

Of these:

32 walked, 4 had breakfast and, 33 had lunch at the Ferry. Almost all also had a coffee at Tele's Patisserie (some had cake as well).

In true EACC tradition it was the standard ‘EACC 3-mile walk’ (4.5 miles to be accurate, with a 2.5-mile short cut).

The rain held off, the tides were low, so nothing like last year’s wade! This meandering group made off, with a collection of dogs, (including a 6-week-old puppy which had to be carried part of the way), from the Ferry via Coldham Hall to the Patisserie for coffee and chat.

winter walk 1 1Most of the conversation that I could overhear seemed to be on progress of preparing boats for the forthcoming season. It was good to catch up with those we had not seen over the winter months.

A circular route took us back to the Ferry which avoided retracing our steps (unless the shortcut return was chosen).

More time to chat as we made our way back along the thankfully quiet lanes, and footpaths to the Ferry in time for Roz and her team to sit us down and serve up a ‘truly good pub Sunday lunch’. Most of the group had opted for the generous Sunday roast, - so generous I didn’t note anybody selecting a pudding (tempting as they were)!

By 3pm we were thinning out, with most leaving well before Lee Vasey started to play.

A big thank you all for turning out, and a big thank you to The Ferry House and Tele's Patisserie for looking after us so well.
